How to Build a Stool Out of ONE Board

Woodworking doesn’t have to require a massive workshop full of expensive lumber. In fact, some of the most satisfying and functional projects can be built using materials you probably already have lying around.

In our latest DEKO Tools project, we challenged ourselves to build a sturdy, minimalist wooden stool using just ONE single wooden board and a trusty cordless drill.

Whether you need a step stool for the house, a plant stand, or just want a beginner-friendly weekend project to practice your carpentry skills, this one-board stool is the perfect build.

Tools and Materials You Will Need:

  • 1 Solid Wooden Board (A 1×10 or 1×12 pine board works perfectly)
  • DEKO 20V Cordless Drill (For pre-drilling and driving screws)
  • Miter Saw or Circular Saw
  • Wood Screws
  • Pencil & Speed Square
  • Clamps

There are only a few steps:

First, measure and mark your cuts.

Second, make your cuts.

Third, prepare the support brackets, drill a hole before the screw.

Next, screw it tight.

Next, attach the brackets to the legs.

And then, fasten the top, it is also better to drill a hole before put the screw.

And last, screw it tight!

Give the whole stool a quick sanding to remove any splintered edges or pencil marks. You can leave it raw for a natural workshop look, or add a coat of stain and polyurethane to match your home decor!
