Wire Suspended Compensators

Originating from early levelling technology, this system uses a classic pendulum plumb bob—a feature still found in dumpy optical levels and older rotating lasers. Inside the self-levelling mechanism, light passes through a wire-suspended compensator. First, the light hits mirrors or prisms on a floating platform. Then, as gravity swings the platform like a plumb bob, clever geometry instantly corrects the exiting beam or optical view to ensure it stays perfectly level.

Pendulum or Gimbal type mechanism

This technology powers most line, dot, and budget-friendly rotating lasers. Users can easily recognize a pendulum system by its transport locking knob, although some models choose to rely on internal rubber bumpers instead. Technically, the system mimics a wire-suspended compensator: a gimbal bearing assembly supports a central pendulum, which swings freely to self-level under gravity. Furthermore, both mechanisms employ magnetic or air dampening to suppress swaying. Without this dampening, the pendulum would swing for minutes; with it, the system stabilizes in seconds.

Electronic Self-Levelling or Auto Levelling

Consequently, Deko Lasers utilize electronic self-levelling to maximize efficiency in modern construction. Unlike free-floating pendulums, this system integrates sensors and motors to actively drive the laser into position. Specifically, two motors adjust the horizontal X and Y axes independently.

To achieve this, a light sensor tracks the spirit vial’s bubble; once the bubble centers, maximum light passes through, signaling the motor to stop. Because these axes sit at 90 degrees, the entire 360-degree horizontal plane becomes perfectly level as soon as both axes align.
