HOW TO MAKE AN EPOXY RESIN CLOCK
What Is an Epoxy River Clock?
An epoxy river table is hybrid furniture merging wood planks with resin to mimic a flowing river. This global trend is prized for its modern, exotic style. Similar methods also create stunning river clocks.
Material Preparation: Several well-dried natural wood blocks, Epoxy (2 KG kit), Dye starter kit, Pigment sample pack, Used and sturdy round gift box, Wide scotch tape, Measuring cup, Electronic scale, Wooden stick, Nitrile gloves, Clock hand Kit, Decorations, Quick action clamps.
Tool Preparation: Wood Router, Rotary Tool, Electric Drill, Orbit Sander, Portable Blower, Jig Saw, Glue gun.
*Depending on how much time and money you want to spend, some of these materiala can be omitted or substituted one way or another.
There are only a few steps:
1. Preparation and Mold Setup
First, line a round gift box with scotch tape so as to prevent sticking. Then, use a rotary tool to grind away any rot from your wood blocks. Once cleaned, simply place the wood securely inside the prepared mold to complete the setup.
2. Resin Mixing and Pouring
Initially, mix epoxy parts A and B at a 3:1 ratio, stirring thoroughly with a stick and pigment. Then, pour the resin in two layers to minimize bubbles. Lastly, for the second layer, add pigment and use a stick to swirl “water patterns” into the surface.
3. Curing and Sanding
First, allow the resin to sit for 48 hours until fully cured. Once you demold the disc, use an orbital sander or various sandpaper grits to smooth surfaces. Subsequently, ensure you remove any sharp bumps along edges to achieve a professional finish.
4. Creating the Movement Template
To begin, draw a square for the clock movement on a spare board. Next, drill holes at the corners and use a router to cut the shape. Consequently, you create a template that serves as a guide, thereby making it much easier to cut the tricky resin precisely..
5. Routing the Resin Disc
First, clamp the resin disc to your template, making sure to use foam paper against scratches. Following this, use a wood router to carve a square hole matching the movement’s depth. To finish, utilize a portable blower to clear away remaining debris for a perfectly clean result.
6. Final Assembly and Finishing
Initially, drill a center hole for the shaft using a power drill. Subsequently, apply wood wax oil to achieve a polished finish. Afterwards, install the movement and battery. Conclusively, attach the clock hands and add decorative touches to the second hand to complete your project.
Voila! The resin clock is now complete!
